Axios videos: The 2018 view on abortion from the left

As conservative voters head to the polls in November to elect anti-abortion lawmakers, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock tells Axios that the pro-abortion rights platform will help Democrats to pick up seats in the Senate and take back the House.

Why it matters: Abortion shouldn’t be a taboo topic for Democrats, but few are talking about it on the campaign trail. Part of that, Schriock says, is strategic: she thinks conservative Republican candidates will scare away critical voters — like millennials, the largest voting bloc this year — with their hard-line anti-abortion stances.

Driving the news: President Trump wants to cut Title X federal funding from organizations like Planned Parenthood that promote or provide abortions.

The big picture: Health care is a top issue across the country, meaning some voters will want to hear about reproductive rights, especially from the record number of women running for office at every level.

The other side: See our interview with anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser here.
