Stakeholders from both sides of the issue of gun control took to the Sunday shows this morning to make their case about what is to blame for America's gun violence problem.

The bottom line: Despite another school shooting this week in Santa Fe, Texas, Republicans and Democrats don't seem anywhere near close to agreeing on how best to address America's issues with gun violence.

Incoming NRA President Oliver North

  • North appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.
  • "The disease in this case isn't the Second Amendment. The disease is youngsters who are steeped in a culture of violence."
  • "If you look at what has happened to the young people, many of these young boys have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten."

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick

  • Patrick appeared on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
  • "Remember, we cannot sit back and say it's the gun. It's us as a nation."
  • "Here's the reality: [guns] are a part of who we are as a nation. It is our Second Amendment. You know, it talks about a well-run militia, the Second Amendment. Our teachers are a part of that well-run militia, by the way."

Sandy Hook Promise founder Nicole Hockley

  • Hockley, who lost her son in the Sandy Hook shooting, appeared on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
  • "For that one student that I heard after the Santa Fe shooting saying 'I wasn't surprised' ... if that's the environment that our kids are now being brought up in, then we are doing something very tragically wrong."
  • "This isn't just about school shootings. This is about shootings everywhere. This is happening in every community, every day."

Sen. Bernie Sanders

  • Sanders appeared on NBC's Meet the Press with Chuck Todd.
  • "It is unspeakable — it really is — to see the kids all over this country who go to a place where they should feel safe, where they could focus on learning, you know, are now worried about the things we saw in Texas or in Florida a few months ago."
  • On why Congress can't pass gun laws: "It's a three-letter word. Its the NRA. And it's Trump and the Republicans who don't have the guts to stand up to these people — and that's pretty pathetic."
