Volcanic eruption in Hawaii could get worse
The U.S. Geological Survey said the damage caused by Hawaii's Kilauea volcanic eruption could lead to greater destruction if lava drops below groundwater level, into the summit's crater-like basin, the AP reports.
Threat level: Lava dropping into the basin could create steam-driven explosions that would eject boulders, rocks, and ash into the air around the summit. Officials said there is also potential for ash, steam and sulfur dioxide emissions to be released into the surrounding area.
