The FBI has opened an investigation into its own response to the sexual abuse allegations against Larry Nassar, the former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics doctor, per the WSJ. The bureau is reportedly facing criticism after multiple agents across the country did not act on complaints lodged against Nassar by gymnasts throughout 2015.

Why it matters: The FBI's failure to act possibly exposed more girls to sexual abuse at Nassar's hands. He was confronted in court last month by Emma Ann Miller, who said she was "possibly the last child he will ever assault" after she alleged that he had abused her in August 2016 — more than a year after the FBI received the first complaints against him.
