Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn resigned on Thursday amid political unrest. His resignation coincided with the release of hundreds of political prisoners, per The Washington Post.
- There had been massive protests in recent weeks over the refusal to release opposition leaders. Desalegn, who was appointed prime minister in 2012, will remain in office until his successor is chosen.
