House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes claims the changes made to a controversial memo after his committee voted to release it, which Ranking Member Adam Schiff described as "secret" and "material," were "minor edits," per Buzzfeed News.
Why it matters: The White House plans to release the memo, which alleges the FBI and Justice Department abused spying laws, tomorrow. Schiff is trying to stop that from happening, while Sen. Chuck Schumer claims Nunes' alterations show he'll "stop at nothing to undermine the rule of law and interfere with the Russia probe."
Statement, from a Nunes spokesman:
"In its increasingly strange attempt to thwart publication of the memo, the Committee Minority is now complaining about minor edits to the memo, including grammatical fixes and two edits requested by the FBI and by the Minority themselves. The vote to release the memo was absolutely procedurally sound, and in accordance with House and Committee rules. To suggest otherwise is a bizarre distraction from the abuses detailed in the memo, which the public will hopefully soon be able to read for themselves."
