I didn't grow up in the United States, so Thanksgiving is still a new tradition to me. As much as I love the idea of gathering family and friends for an epic meal, I'm always trying to find ways to freshen up the familiar menu. Playing to my heritage, I serve the usual Thanksgiving items with a Southeast Asian twist: brussels sprouts seared in fish sauce, garlic, and chiles; sweet potatoes roasted with citrus and cumin; and coconut added to pumpkin pies. These variations are always a hit with friends accustomed to more traditional Thanksgiving fare and make for a uniquely memorable meal.
