Migrants who tried to reach Europe are being auctioned off as slaves in Libya according to a CNN report that includes video of a slave auction in which men are sold for about $400 each. After receiving the video, CNN spent months authenticating it and investigating further. The video, published last week, has sparked protests.in Africa and Europe.
- What's happening: Travel by migrants has been significantly restricted by the Libyan coastguard, leaving smugglers with a "backlog of would-be passengers on their hands." Some of these migrants are auctioned off to people seeking laborers.
