New FCC chair spotlights digital divide

Ajit Pai, who Donald Trump just named to lead the FCC, told staffers today that one of his top priorities will be expanding access to modern digital technology.

I believe one of our core priorities going forward should be to close that divide — to do what's necessary to help the private sector build networks, send signals, and distribute information to American consumers, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or anything else. — FCC Chairman Ajit Pai

What Pai didn't mention: The commission's controversial net neutrality rules that he is expected to dismantle.

What's next: Pai's first commission open meeting since his promotion comes next week. Traditionally, the chairman takes questions from the press after the meeting.
