On Monday, Mitch McConnell said President Trump had "excessive expectations" about the speed of the democratic process, after Trump's frustrated responses to the failure of the GOP push on health care. Today, after Sean Hannity and Dan Scavino responded to the remarks on Twitter, so did Trump.
Around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Sean Hannity tweeted:
@SenateMajLdr No Senator, YOU are a WEAK, SPINELESS leader who does not keep his word and you need to Retire! https://t.co/X85QQV3WOG— Sean Hannity (@seanhannity) August 9, 2017
That criticism made its way to the White House -- specifically in front of the White House Social Media Director. From his personal Twitter, at around nine o'clock this morning, Dan Scavino, Jr., tweeted:
More excuses. @SenateMajLdr must have needed another 4 years - in addition to the 7 years -- to repeal and replace Obamacare..... https://t.co/6FOVBm6BQU — Dan Scavino Jr. (@DanScavino) August 9, 2017
Trump finally responded this afternoon:
Senator Mitch McConnell said I had "excessive expectations," but I don't think so. After 7 years of hearing Repeal & Replace, why not done? — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 9, 2017
Why it matters: Though he follows news (particularly cable news) closely, Trump doesn't always see items like this in real time. They often reach him through the filter of pro-Trump media, or his own administration, before he sees them — and reacts.
