To no surprise, Brogan BamBrogan, the co-founder of Hyperloop One who left the company last summer in a dramatic break-up, is back with a new venture—one directly challenging his former employer.
The details: Arrivo, based in Los Angeles, was founded by BamBrogan along with former SpaceX engineer Jadon Smith, and Nima Bahrami, Knut Sauer, Andrew Liu, William Mulholland, and David Pendergast, and has already raised an undisclosed amount of funding, according to TechCrunch.
Arrivo will focus on the U.S. market, unlike Hyperloop One, which is currently eyeing overseas locations because of the lower regulatory and financial barriers. Arrivo hopes that by first shuttling cargo, it can more quickly establish itself in the U.S. and more easily move up to transporting passengers.
Bigger vision: BamBrogan says transportation is only the beginning for Arrivo.
"Just like Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce didn't just make one chip, they really started off 20 years of improvements not only in chip technology but also in the technology used to make those chips, and that turned into opportunities for people to use them. [..] We want to develop technology that can be used in ways that we can't even imagine. That's the bigger vision."
