Amazon will close Whole Foods deal on Monday

Amazon expects to finalize its acquisition of Whole Foods on Monday, less than a week after regulators and Whole Foods shareholders signed off on the $13.7 billion purchase.

Here's what the purchase means initially for the wallets of shoppers at the high-end grocer:

  • Customers with Amazon Prime memberships will ultimately get "special savings and other in-store benefits."
  • Some staples will cost less. That includes standard items like bananas and eggs, but also items like kale and almond butter.

What to watch: Antitrust concerns about the deal aren't going away. Amazon's critics will be watching closely to see what this means for competition and the company's influence over retail.
