Survey: Most Americans disapprove of Trump's conduct

A new Pew Research survey finds that 58% of Americans dislike how Trump conducts himself. Breaking down who disapproves:

  • Gender: 53% of men vs. 62% of women dislike Trump's conduct
  • Education: 78% of those with postgraduate degrees vs. 53% of people with some college education or less
  • Ideology: 19% of Republicans vs. 89% of Democrats
  • Ethnicity: 51% of whites vs. 62% of blacks vs. 70% of Hispanics
  • Age: 62% of those under 50 vs. 48% of those 65 and older

One more thing: 58% of Americans have little or no confidence when it comes to making "wise decisions about the use of nuclear weapons."

Private equity returns fell behind stocks over the past decade

U.S. private equity returns fell just below S&P 500 returns for the 10-year period ending last June, according to a report released Monday morning by Bain & Company.

Why it matters: Private equity markets itself as beating public markets over long-term time horizons, and usually providing an illiquidity premium to boot. These new performance figures not only dent such claims, but provide fresh ammunition to critics of public pension investment in private equity funds.

Apple may finally allow iPhone owners to set email or browsing apps other than Apple's own as their preferred defaults, according to a Bloomberg report from last week.

The big picture: Customers have long clamored for the ability to choose their preferred apps, and now Apple, like other big tech companies, finds itself under increased scrutiny over anything perceived as anticompetitive.
