Shell basically breaks up with Canadian oil sands

Royal Dutch Shell said Thursday that it's selling almost all of its holdings there in $7.25 billion worth of deals.

Why it matters: The Wall Street Journal sums it up nicely. Shell is "largely abandoning a region that has come to symbolize the risks for big energy companies in high-cost, carbon-intensive sources of oil."
