Sessions to increase use of the death penalty

Despite a recent Gallup poll shows that the percentage of Americans who support executions has hit an all-time low in more than four decades, the DOJ will pursue the death penalty in at least two murder cases, per the Wall Street Journal.

Why it matters: A senior Justice Department official told the WSJ that Sessions sees the death penalty as a “valuable tool in the tool belt,” adding that the Trump administration will likely expand the practice.
