Alex Azar is one step closer to becoming Health and Human Services secretary. The Senate Finance Committee voted largely along partisan lines on Wednesday to advance his nomination to the Senate floor. Sen. Tom Carper was the only Democrat to support him; no Republicans were opposed.
What’s next: Barring any huge surprises, Azar is on track for a relatively easy confirmation. Democratic Sens. Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Manchin have already indicated they’ll vote for hm.
