More than 2 weeks after votes were first tallied on August 7, Trump-backed Republican Troy Balderson was officially declared the winner of the special election for Ohio's 12th congressional district by the Associated Press on Friday.
Why it matters: Trump won this district by 11 points and a Republican has held the seat since 1983, according to the Washington Post. While the result is technically a victory for the GOP, the slim margin is yet another indicator of House Republican uncertainty to come in the midterms this fall. Balderson and Democrat Danny O'Connor will face off this November.
