A leading Mueller investigation prosecutor who oversaw the handling of former national security advisor and Trump campaign aide Michael Flynn’s guilty plea has left the team, a spokesman said Tuesday.
What they're saying: "Zainab Ahmad has concluded her detail with the Special Counsel’s Office but will continue to represent the office on specific pending matters that were assigned to her during her detail," Peter Carr said in a statement first reported by Yahoo News.
Why it matters: It's another indication that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation is close to completion. It was announced last week that Andrew Weissmann, who oversaw the prosecution of President Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort, would be leaving the investigation "in the near future."
