Hospital streamlining software developer LeanTaaS acquired clinical workflow automation provider Hospital IQ, CEO Mohan Giridharadas told Erin Tuesday.

Why it matters: The combined entity is worth more than $1 billion, creating one of the largest providers of hospital efficiency tools at a time when health systems face a major labor crisis and financial strain.

1. LeanTaaS acquires Hospital IQ

Health care staffing technology company ShiftKey raised $300 million in a round that tips the company's valuation over $2 billion, CEO Tom Ellis told Erin Wednesday.

Why it matters: A labor shortage plagued the U.S. before the pandemic, and COVID led to record levels of burnout and quitting among nurses and clinicians. ShiftKey's solution is offering flexible scheduling.

2. ShiftKey gets $300M

Maternity care provider Oula raised $19.1 million in Series A funds for its hybrid model uniting midwives and obstetricians, CEO Adrianne Nickerson told Erin Thursday.

Why it matters: Pregnant people in the U.S. die at more than three times the rate of most other high-income countries, and the death rate of pregnant Black people is nearly three times higher than that of white people.

3. Oula raises $19M Series A

Aegis Ventures and Northwell Health are unveiling their second partnership, a national virtual care joint venture called Caire, at this week's JPM conference, sources told Claire on Monday.

Why it matters: Drawing on the clinical expertise of Northwell Health's physicians, Caire aims to be a differentiator amid a noisy virtual care market.
