In an unannounced visit, Vice President Mike Pence traveled to Afghanistan Thursday, Politico reports. He left Washington shortly after the House passed the GOP tax bill.

The details: On the ground, Pence addressed troops at Bagram Air Field and met with Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani. His trip comes after President Trump's August speech announcing intent to continue the war in Afghanistan.
