Hello, Tuesday afternoon. It's Bri and Alexis, here with a special edition of Axios Charlotte to celebrate our fifth annual Home of the Year winners.

How it works: Each spring, we open nominations for the awards for newly built and renovated homes.

  • We look for innovative architecture, creative use of color and honestly, downright good design that makes our hearts sing.

Worth noting: The construction industry has been hit hard by labor shortages, lockdown orders, financing strains and supply chain disruptions, meaning we received fewer submissions than in other years. But they were all truly some of the best we’d ever seen.

Here's our 2022 Home of the Year winner and six fabulous finalists.

1 big thing… 2022 Winner: A custom English country manor

This year’s winner is a shining example of form meets function: it’s visually striking, and clear the Lake Norman home is built around how its family really lives.

You can picture conversations around the oversized U-shaped kitchen island, lazy summer days by the pool and the joy felt sinking into a plush chair, looking out to the water or garden.

  • It serves its family well with timeless style that we’ll be admiring for a long, long time.
  • Kingswood Homes, Harry Schrader of Schrader Design and Patrick Lewis of Patrick Lewis Interiors are the geniuses behind the magic.
