The vast majority of Minnesotans have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine within the recommended timetable.

By the numbers: As of Thursday, 60,429 residents who received a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine had missed their second shot by at least a week, an MDH spokesman told Axios.

Context: That might sound like a lot, but it represents just 3.4% of Minnesotans who started the two-dose series.

  • Nationally, about 8% of Americans haven't gotten their second shot on time, per the CDC.

Why it matters: Double doses of the Moderna and Pfizer shots are needed to get the full benefit.

  • Yes, but: If you got the Johnson & Johnson shot, one jab is enough for now.

There's not just one kind of vaccine hesitancy

Expand chart
Data: The Harris Poll; Chart: Will Chase/Axios

Around 10% of Americans aren't very eager to get the vaccine, but they're not really hesitant either — they're just waiting to get it until they get around to it, according to new Harris polling.

Why it matters: Making vaccination more convenient will be a big part of the difficult process of getting more shots in arms, now that many of the most eager Americans have gotten their shots.

Pfizer to offer smaller shipments of COVID vaccine

Pfizer will begin distributing smaller packages of COVID-19 vaccine to states by the end of May to reduce potential waste.

Why it matters: As public demand for vaccine teeters, health officials see smaller clinical settings as the next step in vaccinating Americans who haven’t sought out a shot already.

Israel's "change bloc" collapses, leaving Netanyahu in charge

In a dramatic shift that comes amid fighting in the Gaza strip and clashes between Jewish and Arab citizens in Israel, right-wing kingmaker Naftali Bennett has announced he will no longer seek an alternative government to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Why it matters: Bennett had been on the verge of a power-sharing deal with centrist opposition leader Yair Lapid that would have made him prime minister for two years until Lapid rotated into the job. Without Bennett, Lapid has no path to a majority, and Israel will almost certainly head for its fifth election since 2019 with Netanyahu still in his post.
