Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was hit with four fines on Monday for failing to comply with House rules on masks.

By the numbers: House members are fined $500 the first time they break the House pandemic rule and $2,500 is taken from their $174,000 congressional pay each time they commit the offense thereafter — and Greene has been cited at least seven times for this, per the Washington Post.

Details: The House Ethics Committee issued a notice on Monday outlining Greene's fines for three consecutive days when she breached the congressional rule.

  • Greene, who lost an appeal for an earlier mask violation, did not appeal the fines, according to the panel.

The big picture: Capitol physician Brian Monahan announced in July that the House was reimposing its indoor mask requirement for meetings in enclosed spaces, as the Delta variant surged across the U.S.

What she's saying: "I will continue my stand on the House floor against authoritarian Democrat mandates," Greene said in a statement to news outlets.

Twin Cities suburbs take a pass on mask mandates

Minneapolis and St. Paul largely stand alone when it comes to reviving mask mandates in response to rising Omicron cases.

Driving the news: The Duluth City Council became the latest Minnesota city government to reject a mandate Monday night.

  • Local leaders in Bloomington passed a resolution this week encouraging, but not requiring, residents and visitors to wear masks and follow other CDC and state health guidance on curbing COVID.

Why it matters: Masking — especially with an N95 or similar face coverings — in crowded indoor spaces is one of the best tools we have to prevent the virus' spread.

  • The cities of Hopkins and Golden Valley cited that reasoning in passing mask mandates of their own Tuesday night.

House Democrats postpone annual retreat due to COVID

House Democrats on Tuesday postponed their annual retreat scheduled for Feb. 9 to 11 due to the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases, Axios has confirmed.

Driving the news: The decision is based on "guidance from the Office of Attending Physician," Democratic Conference Chair Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) wrote in a letter to lawmakers, Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman reports. Jeffries added that "the health and safety of the Members, their families and staff is our top priority."

A pandemic victim: Ethical supply chains

Over the last decade, global companies have put in place elaborate policies to ensure their suppliers protect worker safety and human rights. They're struggling to comply with those policies in the pandemic.

Driving the news: COVID-era disruptions have caused a spike in noncompliance with health and safety rules, according to new data from Qima, which audits supply chains.
