Sorry, National diehards, but BWI is crushing it when it comes to short waits.

State of play: BWI is second in shortest wait times among 39 U.S. international airports analyzed by Bounce, a luggage storage company.

  • The company analyzed data for TSA lines for departing passengers and passport-control lines for arrivals.

Why it matters: You have a favorite airport. Most Washingtonians do. It’s a little like a home team —as much as it disappoints us at times, we can’t quit. But maybe we should!

The evidence: The average wait time at BWI is 19 minutes, compared to 32 minutes at Dulles.

Go deeper: Check out Cuneyt's transit guide for getting to IAD, BWI, and DCA.

What's new: Maryland residents with TSA PreCheck can now use a mobile driver's license or state ID on an iPhone to pass through security at BWI (and National).

  • BWI was recognized last year as the best North American airport of its size.

💭 Our bureau chief Kristen’s thought bubble: I like Reagan because it’s close, but I ALWAYS lose my car in the garage. I love BWI! Super-fast security lines, there’s always parking, and I never lose my car.

💭 Cuneyt’s thought bubble: Why don’t you just Uber? (Dulles, sorry. Turkish Airlines lounge FTW.)
