Mapping where Twin Cities home prices are rising fastest

North Minneapolis, Brooklyn Center and St. Paul's East Side have the fastest growing home prices in the Twin Cities, according to Zillow data.

State of play: Home values in the metro's lower-income neighborhoods are growing much faster than those in the highest income areas.

These are the five zip codes with the biggest average home price increases from April 2016 to April 2021:

1. 55411: North Minneapolis, up 65%, from $135,300 to $223,200
2. 55412: North Minneapolis, 59%, from $135,300 to $215,500
3. 55430: Brooklyn Center, 54%, from $159,600 to $245,100
4. 55130: East Side of St. Paul, 52%, from $146,500 to $223,200
5. 55429: Brooklyn Center, 51% from $174,000 to $262,900

The big picture: Home values are rising fast almost everywhere, but some areas of downtown Minneapolis, Edina and Medina have had a 5-year growth rate of less than 20%.

Yes, but: Despite the modest growth in prices, Edina's 55424 zip code still has the highest average home value in the seven-county metro, at just over $900,000.

• Following Edina, the metro's priciest zip codes are Wayzata ($734,700 average price), Shorewood ($637,700), Orono ($630,600) and Afton ($606,200).
