The vast majority of Minnesotans have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine within the recommended timetable.

By the numbers: As of Thursday, 60,429 residents who received a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine had missed their second shot by at least a week, an MDH spokesman told Axios.

Context: That might sound like a lot, but it represents just 3.4% of Minnesotans who started the two-dose series.

  • Nationally, about 8% of Americans haven't gotten their second shot on time, per the CDC.

Why it matters: Double doses of the Moderna and Pfizer shots are needed to get the full benefit.

  • Yes, but: If you got the Johnson & Johnson shot, one jab is enough for now.
