Megan here from Axios San Francisco to give you San Diegans a little primer on the Giants ahead of the Padres facing them today in the home opener.

Why it matters: The Giants have been on the decline for the last couple of seasons and are looking to change course.

Talking points: San Francisco shook things up this offseason with the firing of manager Gabe Kapler and the addition of some key players, including center fielder and leadoff hitter Jung Hoo Lee, Platinum Glove third baseman Matt Chapman and two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell.

  • Snell isn't the only former Padre playing for the Giants — 2023 manager Bob Melvin is there, too.

The bottom line: The Giants are expected to have one of the best pitching rotations in the National League by the end of the season, but as of now, "it's a bit of a scramble drill," NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
