The city of Philadelphia has released renderings for the first phase of the $250 million upgrades being made to the heavily used FDR Park.
- Take a look at the South Philadelphia park's new welcome center, which includes a courtyard, office and vendor space, and a huge playground.
Flashback: Philadelphia announced a master plan for the park in 2019 to address design and infrastructure issues, and committed a total of $50 million over five years.
- The city's Parks and Recreation Department is collaborating with the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Friends of FDR Park on the early-stage renovations.

What's ahead: Crews will break ground on the project next summer, and complete the upgrades the following year.
