The city of Rogers will pay for renovations at the 94-year-old Victory Theater.
What's happening: David Hook, facilities manager for the city, tells Axios the work includes:
- Repointing the brick on the western third of the building and around the stage area on the interior.
- Repairing damaged wood as well as windows on the front of the building.
- Repainting all wood and metal on the front of the building.
- Resealing the brick on the building.
Why it matters: The theater is a historic part of downtown and one of few community theater options in the region.
Details: The City Council on Tuesday approved a $200,000 contract with Mid-Continental Restoration Co. of Fort Scott, Kansas.
Timeline: The project should start in July and last two to three weeks depending on weather and the theater schedule, Hook says.
Of note: The city owns the Victory Theater and acts as a landlord to the nonprofit organization that operates there, Arkansas Public Theatre. APT handles all productions.
