Purdue Pete and the Notre Dame Leprechaun both have a shot at becoming Hall of Famers.

Driving the news: Voting is open to make both mascots part of the 2024 Mascot Hall of Fame Class.

  • They're the only Indiana mascots to make the ballot this year.
  • Mascots like Rosie Red from the Cincinnati Reds, Big Al from the University of Alabama and Jaxson de Ville from the Jacksonville Jaguars are also in the running.

Zoom in: Current Hall of Famers include Blue from the Colts and Boomer from the Pacers — both part of the class of 2019.

  • Purdue Pete has been around on paper since 1940 and made his first in-person appearance in 1956, according to the Mascot Hall of Fame.
  • The Leprechaun was introduced in 1960 and is portrayed by four students each season.

What's next: You can make your picks until May 25.
