March Madness is here and Purdue is really hoping it doesn't turn into March sadness again.

State of play: The NCAA Selection Committee will announce the full NCAA Tournament bracket on Selection Sunday, March 17.

  • The men's bracket will be announced at 6pm on CBS and the women's bracket at 8pm on ESPN.
  • Tournament play begins March 19-20 and runs through the first weekend in April.

Flashback: You, ahem, may recall that the Boilermakers were a No. 1 seed in last year's tournament too.

  • They became just the second No. 1 seed in tournament history to lose in the first round after No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson beat Purdue 63-58.
  • It was the latest in a string of disappointing tournament results for head coach Matt Painter.

The big picture: Indiana State is hoping to find a spot in the 68-team bracket.

  • Some of the state's most storied men's programs — IU, Notre Dame, Butler — aren't expected to make the cut this year, but the Hoosier and Fighting Irish women's teams could make deep runs in their tournament.
  • Watch for them to be placed as No. 3 or 4 seeds.

Zoom in: Indianapolis will host first- and second-round games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse March 22-24.
