🏈 1 NFL event in history to go

As Detroit prepares to host the NFL Draft in April, we're looking back at a different football extravaganza on home turf.

  • On this day in 2006, we hosted the Super Bowl at Ford Field with the Rolling Stones as the halftime show and nearly 70,000 people in attendance.
  • Former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and other leaders "polished" the city for the event to "show Detroit in a different light," the New York Times reported at the time.
