TV is king for local news in Des Moines

Reproduced from Pew Research Center; Chart: Axios Visuals

The majority of Des Moines residents say they prefer to get their local news from TV stations, despite the growing popularity of digital news consumption, according to Pew Research Center.

Why it matters: Staying on top of local news helps us become better citizens in our community.

  • And who we trust and where we get our news is vital, especially as social media blurs our collective ability to discern accurate content.

The big picture: Americans as a whole are shifting. Pew found that a majority (52%) of us now prefer to get news updates via digital devices, compared to just 35% who prefer TV.

The bottom line: The 5pm newscast isn't going anywhere anytime soon, at least here in Des Moines.

  • But our habits are certainly changing.
