Condos in 140-year-old Denver church fly off the market
In a matter of weeks, buyers have snatched up nearly all of the units inside The Holy Townhomes on North Galapago Street. The final of the six units will be up for sale by the end of the month.
Why it matters: Church-turned-residences are proving a hot concept in Denver. Scott Methodist Church was converted to condos in 1990, and earlier this year we wrote about a 118-year-old church turned into a $3.7M condo.
- All of The Holy Townhomes units that have hit the market so far went under contract within days, including this one, which was listed on a Thursday and had offers in all weekend.
Background: Broker associate Hasan Al-Mabuk bought the church along with Nate and Megan Reed at Reed Design Builders in 2019, BusinessDen reported.
- "I lived across the street, and loved the idea of keeping it intact," Al-Mabuk told Axios.
- Now, Al-Mabuk and the Reed family live in two of the six units.
History: The church was built in 1882 and was open until around the time COVID-19 hit. The congregation is still active but now worships in a new location, Al-Mabuk said.
The exterior of the building was preserved, but the interior of the these Baker neighborhood beauties is fresh and modern, with a minimalist color palette and tasteful upgrades throughout.
- Al-Mabuk said the neighbors appreciate the building as much as he does and were also glad to see the church wasn't torn down. "One neighbor in particular thanks me every time I see her," he said.
What's next: The final unit will be similarly priced (in the upper $500s) and should be listed in the next couple of weeks.
