This Belcaro architectural gem — currently listed for just under $5 million — was completely remodeled with finishes imported from Europe and custom features finished on site.

The state of play: "The owner searched nearly every corner of the world to find the right pieces for each space," listing agent Jeff Hendley said.

Design: The design is heavily influenced by Mediterranean Revival architecture. Many of the fixtures were bought at auctions and imported from literal palaces, including Versailles, Newport Mansions and Hearst Castle.

  • All the flooring is more than 300 years old and imported from Europe.
  • All of the windows were hand-finished or custom-made by an on-site blacksmith.
  • The walls and ceilings are Venetian plaster.

History: The house was built in 1928 by architects Fisher & Fisher for Florence Kountze Best. Best was the daughter of one of Denver's first bankers, C.B. Kountze.

  • The house was set to be demolished by developers in 2007 and divided into four lots. The current owners bought the house and fully restored it over 2.5 years.

The next buyer is someone who isn’t concerned with conforming to the latest design trends, Hendley said. "This home is for someone who 'gets it' and appreciates quality, European design and authenticity."

Other luxury features: 7,000-bottle wine cellar, game room and bar, pool, near Denver Polo Club, home theater.
