Today marks the return of baseball, and the Texas Rangers will play the Chicago Cubs in Arlington.

  • In case we haven't told you enough, the Rangers enter the season as reigning World Champions.

Why it matters: It's a big year for Globe Life Field. Beyond hosting the champs, the ballpark is also hosting the Big 12 Baseball Championship in May.

State of play: The mid-point between Dallas and Fort Worth has become a major draw for national sporting events beyond regular season Rangers and Cowboys games.

The latest: The Rangers play the Cubs at 6:39pm. ESPN will broadcast the game.

  • Parking lots open at 2pm and gates will open at 3:30pm, when the Rangers start batting practice.
  • A 6pm pre-game ceremony will unveil the World Series championship banner by the right field video board. And there will be an on-field presentation of The Commissioner's Trophy.

Of note: Globe Life has new turf this year, in advance of the All-Star Game.

What we're watching: How the Rangers fare with high expectations against a storied team like the Cubs.
