The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has taken in an orphaned moose named Strawberry from Anchorage, Alaska.
- Her name was inspired by the road where she was found alone, Strawberry Road.
She's estimated to be 4-6 months old, but the baby is hardly small: 5 feet tall, 390 pounds.
Why it matters: Wild moose are increasingly facing threats, including habitat destruction and being struck by cars. The Alaska Zoo is at max capacity and couldn't take another orphan.
- Meanwhile, Columbus had just one moose, a female named Bertha. A 5-year-old male, Objibwe, died of a heart attack last year.
👋 Say "hi" to Strawberry in the zoo's North America region.
