James Beard events the public can enjoy

The James Beard chef awards aren't until June 10, but reservations for ancillary parties, panels, tours, tastings and brunches are filling up fast.

The rundown: We've compiled a list of some of the most interesting events and how to make reservations. For starters:

Thursday, June 6

Special menu paired with cocktails at Mordecai (Wrigleyville) June 6-10. Think stuffed clams with a martini and more. Partial proceeds benefit the James Beard Foundation. Reservations here.

Friday, June 7

Book signing and cocktails at The Violet Hour (Wicker Park) 7:30pm-midnight. Meet and sip cocktails inspired by Danny Childs, author of Beard nominated "Slow Drinks." Reservations here.

Saturday, June 8

Summer kickoff party at Baobing at Duck Duck Goat 1-3pm (Fulton Market) Enjoy cocktails and ice cream sundaes at chef Stephanie Izard's Taiwanese-inspired walk-up window.

Sunday, June 9

Japanese Matsuri festival at Gaijin (Fulton Market) 4-6pm and 7-9:30pm featuring passed appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, Osaka-style okonomiyaki, mochi doughnuts, kakigōri, DJ, taiko drumming and special cocktails. Reservations here.
