There's an audacious new Chicago drink on the market that could give Malört a run for its money.
The drink: Fernet Fungo ($31.99), a collaboration between Edgewater's Co-Op Sauce and 18th Street Distillery, the first Black-owned distillery in Indiana.
- It uses fresh shiitake mushrooms, citrus and 15 herbs and spices to create an incredibly bold-flavored amaro.
The intrigue: Malört tastes like a refreshing sipper next to this thick, umami-packed shiitake elixir.
The verdict: Beware, this amaro is impossible to drink straight without grimacing.
- Instead mix it into a tart fizzy cocktail, or treat it like the rye in a rye and soda.
What we're watching: Will #FernetFungoFace overtake #MalortFace as the next big social media sensation?
