Chicago celebrates the Sky

Chicago came out in force to celebrate the WNBA champion Chicago Sky on Tuesday, the first championship rally in Chicago since the Cubs in 2016.

• Thousands attended both the parade and the rally at Millennium Park.

What happened: Politicians, players, coaches and owners spoke at the Pritzker Pavilion, including hometown hero Candace Parker.

• "I remember watching the Chicago Bulls parades and rallies on television and dreaming of being in that moment," Parker said. "Everybody that showed up, thank you."
• The Sky also announced a special guest via Twitter, the door that Phoenix star Diana Taurasi apparently broke in the locker room after losing Game 4.
• Chance the Rapper also spoke at the rally. "Thank you, Chicago Sky, for making this city so proud. For making us winners again!" Chance also promised to get a Sky tattoo. No word on where.

Meanwhile, Sky merchandise is in short supply. Parade revelers bought up bootleg merch along the route and there were reports that Fanatics is saying Sky merchandise has sold faster than any other WNBA champion in league history.

💬 Justin's thought bubble: At the rally, Gov. J.B. Pritzker proclaimed he was renaming the city "Skytown" after the popular hashtag. Taking nothing away from the world champs, but can we get a new hashtag for next year? Nobody here calls Chicago "Chi-Town." It's cringe-worthy.
