Is Charlotte next in line for a Soho House?

Soho House is expanding into Charleston, Portland, Manchester and Mexico City. This announcement got us wondering whether Charlotte could be up next as a possible location for the private club.

What it is: Think of Soho House as a modern country club with restaurants, bars, a gym, spa, social events and members-only hotel rooms.

  • Soho House has locations in major cities around the world, including Miami, New York, Chicago, London, Barcelona, LA and Austin.

How it works: There are a few types of membership, including Soho House (original), Cities Without Houses, Soho Works and Soho Friends.

  • Soho House: Pricing depends on which House will be your home base. For example, if you live in Austin and want access around the world, you’ll pay $4,871 a year, plus a one-time fee of $1,082.50 (which is converted into credits). For only access to the Austin Soho House, you’ll pay $2,652 a year, plus the fee.
  • Cities Without Houses: This option gives people without Houses in their city access to locations around the world. For Charlotteans, a Cities Without Houses membership is $3,520 a year.
  • Soho Works: This option grants access to Soho’s coworking spots in London, New York and Los Angeles.
  • Soho Friends: Starting at $120 a year, this option allows you to book bedrooms at SoHo House, discounts and access to events.

The intrigue: Cities Without Houses includes a list of cities where there’s a Soho House community but no physical space yet.

  • The list is a way to gauge membership potential and demand for a physical House in any given city, per The Points Guy.
  • Charleston and Portland were on that list — and so is Charlotte.

My thought bubble: The demand for niche luxury social spaces makes Charlotte ripe for a private club, aimed at millennials with a little (or a lot) of extra cash to spend.

  • Private pools around Charlotte have six-year waitlists, boutique fitness memberships run upwards of $300 a month, and the new Intown Golf Club already has a waitlist.

Of note: Soho House declined to comment on future expansions.
