You can book a private chef’s table in the kitchen at Kindred for $1,500

Kindred, the #1 best restaurant in the region, is a popular spot with Charlotteans for celebrations and special occasion meals.

The exquisite restaurant in an old pharmacy on Main Street opened in 2015 to rave reviews, including a game-changing (and well deserved) feature spot on Bon Appetit’s list of America’s 10 Best New Restaurants of 2015.

Kindred is meticulously operated but somehow effortlessly cool and laid back all at once, making it an ideal spot to toast life milestones without looking like you tried too hard.

So of course this is where I booked the Agenda’s fourth anniversary dinner — but I went all in with their most coveted table reservation.

Kindred chef’s table

It’s certainly not a secret, but not everyone knows you can upgrade your Kindred experience by booking their private chef’s table in the kitchen.

It’s accessed through a separate entrance down a flight of stairs around the side of the building and is quite literally in the kitchen.

Not next to the kitchen or behind glass overlooking the kitchen. It is in the kitchen.

Front row seat: That’s chef Joe Kindred doing his thing in the background.

The 10-seat table requires a $1,500 minimum spend and includes a family-style meal and wine.

We filled all 10 seats, but if you wanted to sit there alone and eat $1,500 worth of food, that’s an option. No judgment zone.

The menu is chef’s choice, but you can let them know about any dietary restrictions to accommodate in advance. We had two vegetarians and one gluten-free diner because we’re a high-maintenance crowd.

Our food came out in waves, sometimes hand delivered by owners Joe and Katy Kindred, and was a mix of restaurant favorites (like the crispy oysters and plenty of milk bread, duh) and some special dishes just for us. It seemed never-ending and every time we thought we were done, there was more.

Of course, everyone had plenty of room for dessert — milk bread cinnamon rolls and classic birthday cake. 10/10, would recommend.

I loved the entire chef’s table experience at Kindred. It’s unique. It’s intimate. It really does feel like a big family affair. And you don’t have to think about a thing — just book it and show up.
