Updated 8:31 a.m. 3/18/17: Mystery solved!

From CA reader Jason Pfaff: “I was reading your article about the 4 smells of Charlotte and I know your mystery smell at exits 16 and 18 on I-77. I’ve lived between the two exits for 10 years and had to figure it out myself. There is a City Jail – North Facility located between the two exits. They do laundry A LOT… hence the smell. Not sure of the frequency, but from memory its at least 3 to 4 times a day where it is very pronounced.”
