Hello Tuesday.

A lot of people in Charlotte are coming together to help our neighbors to the south. In case you haven’t heard, a good chunk of South Carolina – from Columbia down to the Lowcountry – is flooded after a huge rain event. Charlotteans are helping bring drinking water, the biggest priority, and other supplies to people in need. Men’s exercise and fellowship group F3 is collecting money here. One Life Church in Concord is sending out a truck with supplies at noon. Also keep an eye on the Red Cross chapter in Charlotte. I know there are more, so please tweet @charlotteagenda so we can spread the word.

Today’s Weather: 74. Mostly sunny. 10% chance of rain.
Today’s Stat: 19.7. Percentage of Charlotteans who speak a language other than English at home.
Today’s Job: Senior Email Marketing Specialist at MetLife. Apply
Today’s Charlottean: Amy Roberts, for her leadership and dedication with Ballantyne Relay for Life.

A working guide to Charlotte Halloween parties, pub crawls and costume contests (for grown-ups) [Levans]
A monster mash, a grave diggers ball, adult trick-or-treat and eight other events keeping Charlotte spooky this month. The 86-ounce “Witches Brew Buckets” at Howl at the Moon sound super serious.

Park Road Shopping Center is hitting a huge turning point [Dunn]
The addition of brands like J. Crew means the big Park/Woodlawn development is changing from more of a neighborhood shopping center to a citywide destination. See who’s moved out and who’s moved in. And what’s going to happen with the back lot?

The case for buying all your holiday presents in October (and 3 local places to shop right now) [Levans]
I’m probably not going to follow this advice because I’m a terrible gift-giver. For real, my wife has started buying herself presents and then telling me they’re my gift to her. But right now is actually the best time to start buying Christmas things. Boulevard at South End, Paper Skyscraper and Handpicked are great starting points.

Today is another Election Day. Are you comfortable with who’s picking your leaders? (two charts) [Chiou]
Yes, I know we just made a big deal about primary election day, but this one has the added intrigue of being a run-off. By the end of tonight we should know who will face Edwin Peacock to be the next mayor of Charlotte. Too bad we’re relying on so few people to make these big decisions for us.

The 20 highest-paid people in Mecklenburg County government [Dunn]
Second installment in our local government salary series. See who is in our top leadership positions.

5 reasons why the Charlotte Segway Tour should be on your to-do list [Getz]
We all see these groups out all the time. Ben makes a solid case for why even people who have been here for awhile should strap on a helmet.

16 innovative corporate jobs at Lowe’s, open right now [Williams]
The Mooresville campus is massive and beautiful, and the job titles are really intriguing. Senior storyteller. Human Experience Design Manager. Some entry level stuff in here, too.

Brahmin sets grand opening at SouthPark Mall [Agenda/Instagram]. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Need I say more?

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools wants everyone in Charlotte to volunteer an hour per week [CMS]. It’s part of Superintendent Ann Clark’s literacy initiative. The easiest way is to sign up to read to kids. Pick a time, pick a school.

Vietnamese noodle spot “CO” to open in the next 60 days [Agenda/Instagram]. Park Road Shopping Center. The small bites sound exciting.

Help the South Iredell High band [GoFundMe]. 18 students were injured in a roof collapse at a nearby school, several suffering horrific injuries.

Sneak peak at Marriott City Center lobby renovations [Agenda/Instagram]. Should be done by spring. Looks pretty snazzy.

The Cowfish doing big seasonal things [Agenda/Instagram]. Gobble Gobble-ooshi roll. Also the Yam-hattan. Love the puns.

I spent all yesterday at the Apple store getting a cracked screen fixed, but at least I ran into Patrick Ewing (11-time NBA All-Star, Hornets assistant coach, Space Jam legend) while I was out. Starstruck. Get after it.
