26th Annual Chefs Best benefitting Second Harvest Food Bank: Four course meal, live cooking demos, live auction and raffle prizes. Friday, 7/31; Reception at 6pm; Dinner at 7pm. $100 – tickets.

Tomatoes, Tomatoes, Tomatoes Cooking Class at Blue: Learn all about cooking tomatoes from Blue’s Executive Chef Gene Briggs. Saturday, 8/1; 11am-1pm. $57.65 – register.


The Art & Science of Coffee: Get your weekend started early at Skookum’s Friday Tech Talk. The crew from Not Just Coffee will be talking about the Art & Science of Coffee. Friday, 7/31; noon. Free. 

The 2nd Annual Geektopia: Charlotte’s only geeky, nerdy theme party takes place this weekend at The Rabbit Hole and features a Star Wars theme . Event includes a costume contest, free gaming, Star Wars themed drink specials and more. Friday, 7/31; 8pm-2am. $5 in costume or $10 come as you are – pay at the door. 

Arthropod Day at Discovery Place: Did you know that arthropods make up about 85% of all known animals in the world? At Discovery Place’s family-friendly Arthropod Day, you can touch a live horseshoe crab, watch cockroaches and caterpillars race, make a bug hat and more. Saturday, 8/1; 10am-4pm. Free with museum admission. 

Don’t miss the caterpillar races at Arthropod Day on Saturday. They watched the Tour de France to prepare.

Charlotte Premium Outlets One Year Anniversary Celebration: Shop ’til you drop or just hang out and enjoy the festivities, which include live music, balloon twisting, giveaways and more. Saturday, 8/1; 1-5pm. 

The Beer Growler’s One Year Anniversary Celebration: To celebrate the end of their first year, The Beer Growler in South End will have food, games and more than 30 exclusive beers on tap. Saturday, 8/1; open at 11am, special taps start at 2pm.

Pop-up Shopping during Front Porch Sundays: Shop items from 32 Flavors Boutique, All Things Fab, Gre-Dee Arts, Rise Over Run Jewelry, Wish We Had Acres, The Sole Addiction and more at the Shook Kelley Building beside Sycamore Brewing. Sunday, 8/2; 3-7pm. 



Rock of Ages at Actor’s Theatre: This musical takes you back to the 80s with music from Journey, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and others. July 29 – August 15. Schedule and tickets.

Skyline Artist Showcase: Meet and view work by this month’s three featured artists that are part of the Skyline Artists-in-Residence program: Kathryn Godwin, Holly Christine Keogh and Todd Stewart. The project will transform the Goodyear building, the future home of Tryon PlaceFriday, 7/31; 6-9pm.

All Arts Market at Neighborhood Theatre: Over 60 artists will be selling their art at this event – enjoy a drink, mingle with the artists and shop for some affordable art. Saturday, 8/1; 2-10pm. Free admission. 

Girls Rock Charlotte Summer Camp Concert: This week-long music camp for girls concludes this weekend with a concert at McGlohon Theater, during which the campers will showcase the music they wrote. Saturday, 8/1; 7pm. $5 – tickets.
