It’s hard to say if 4th of July falling on a Saturday is a good or bad thing. On the one hand, you don’t get a day off from work, but on the other you do get to make an entire weekend out of celebrating freedom. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly fun or an excuse to drink heavily all day, we’ve got you covered in Charlotte and beyond. Here are 27 activities to keep everybody entertained all holiday weekend long.

For the Kids

Bottle Boats & Cereal Canoes – Bring the kids out to Latta Plantation from 1-4pm on 7/3 for a free hands-on activity turning recyclable materials into toy boats and canoes

Firecracker 5k & Kids Super Soaker Dash – $25 5k, $8 kids dash. Family-friendly race at Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics Center at 7:45am on 7/4. Registration gains you access to HFFA facilities all day.

4th of July at Birkdale Village – The 11th annual Huntersville 4th of July Celebration includes kid-friendly activities lik face painting, bike decorating, a parade and the fire department’s annual water fight from 10a-1pm on 7/4

Howl at the Moon’s Red, White & Brew Bash – Drink specials, games and prizes beginning at 5pm on Friday 7/3

Charlotte 4th Wine & Spirits Tour – $79, 5-hour wine and whiskey bus tour to Daveste Vineyards, Southern Charm Winery and Foothills Distillery. Departs from The Metropolitan at 1pm on Friday 7/3.

KISS Anchor Island

Kiss Anchor Island – $20, Set sail on Lake Norman on a yacht cruise with KISS 95.1 radio personalities. Yacht shuttle pickup is at Mojo’s Grill & Pub starting at 9:15am. Cruise is 10am-2pm.

Sycamore July 4th

Charlotte 4th of July Winery Tour – $99, Full-day bus tour to three vineyards (Owl’s Eye, Baker Buffalo Creek and Fiddlers) departing from The Metropolitan at 10:30am on 7/4

Epicentre Red White & Brews Bar Crawl

July 4th Concert at Sycamore Brewing – Live music (starts at 2pm) and Hot Box food truck on site

Charlotte Symphony Orchestra

Rooftop 210 Red, White & Brews Bar Crawl – $15, Gets you a t-shirt and drink specials at 8 participating Epicentre bars on Saturday 7/4 from 7pm-2am

Plaza Midwood 4th of July Pig Pickin’ – 15th annual neighborhood hog roast will take place Saturday 7/4

Fourth of July Encampment at Kings Mountain – Backwoods Militia will be camped out and demonstrating 18th century outdoor skills all weekend

$1 All-American hot dogs at JJ’s Red Hots – Available all day on 7/4

Fort Mill Independence Day Celebration – Live music and history lessons at First Baptist Church and firing of the cannons at Confederate Park

Charlotte Independence vs. St. Louis FC – Cheer on Charlotte’s soccer team on Saturday 7/4

Skyshow Charlotte

Matthews 4th of July Parade & Concert – Parade begins at 5:30pm on 7/4 followed by live music and activities at Stumptown Park

Raffildini Vineyards Independence Day Celebration – $5 walking tour, $7 wine tasting. Live music in the vineyard beginning at 11am on 7/4

Fernweh Waterfront Festival – Two days of music kicking off 7/4 at Queens Landing on Lake Norman

Midwood Smokehouse Rib Eating Challenge – Contestants compete to eat their way through a full rack of ribs and a plateful of fixings at 3pm on 7/4. Proceeds benefit Claire’s Army.

Fireworks Shows

Old Town Rock Hill’s 13th Annual Red, White & Boom Festival – Evening activities (including an ice cream eating contest) and live music lead up to the fireworks show at 10pm

WBT Skyshow Fireworks Spectacular at BB&T Ballpark – $25, Team USA vs Team Cuba followed by fireworks on 7/4

WBT Skyshow Street Party & Fireworks Viewing – You can skip the baseball game and party in Romare Bearden park starting as early at 3pm on 7/4. Fireworks start after the baseball game.

Carowinds Celebrate America Fireworks Show – Show starts at 10pm on 7/4

Tega Cay 4th of July Celebration – A full day of activities, including a land parade, boat parade, fish fry and more leads up to the fireworks show over the water at 9:30pm on 7/4
