Agenda for Thursday May 14: Patios to chef advice

Hello Thursday.

I drank 2 Cucumber Collins cocktails yesterday evening during a strategy session with Katie at The Summit Room. I wish they cost $4 instead of $11. Katie is heading to Quail Hollow for the golf tourney today and she seriously asked “What do I wear? I don’t own anything khaki.” She followed it up with “Do people where hats?” Unbelievable. I hardly own anything that’s not khaki. Let’s hope she doesn’t get kicked out of the media tent for dressing weird. Anyways.

Today’s Weather: 76. Partly cloudy and 0% chance of rain.
Today’s Stat: $7.1 million. Total purse for the Wells Fargo Golf Championship. Winner brings home a cool $1,278,000.
Today’s Job: Director of Communications at Center City Partners. Apply.
Today’s Charlottean: Justin Karas, CEO of Karas Hospitality, for bringing theNewk’s concept to Charlotte.

Beat the heat with these private Charlotte pool access hacks
Get the scoop from Katie on how to buy spa treatments or gym passes in order to chill poolside at the Omni, Ritz or Ballantyne Resort. Unfortunately, Charlotte Country Club has yet to offer a corporate membership to the Agenda. Likely in spam folder.

Letter to Potential Charlotte Culinary Graduates
My naivete led me to believe the path from Johnson and Wales culinary school to becoming a celebrity chef like Rocco Whalen at Fahrenheit was simple. Wrong. Vanessa drops some knowledge.

Dilworth Neighborhood Grille’s patio got a facelift…and it’s paying off
New: garage doors that open to Morehead, 16 LED TVs and a total of 25 taps. They also brought back their late night food menu (served until 2 am). Co-owner Norm Randall told April that business is up 44% yr/yr.

Let’s throw a party! Entertaining ideas from Sarah Crosland
I worked with Sarah at the Observer. She’s very cool and her office was a hidden gem on the 4th floor. Sarah is co-hosting the Relish Carolina Social House dinner series this summer and Erin stops by her crib to party.

City Smart: Toll lane drama to Princess Charlotte
Quickly understand the implications of NC’s revenue surplus, Charlotte’s revenue loss and why a toll lane contract is making many upset. Fast explanations from Amy and Elizabeth.

Sit and stay: Saying goodbye to your dog
“But no matter how many accidents you clean up or how many awkward butt-sniffing moments you have, the hardest part about being a dog owner is saying goodbye” – Mary.

The Weekender: May 15 – 17
Our list includes everything from the Futo Buta grand opening to Bob Saget to South End Hops Festival to SlamCharlotte Poetry to SwimMAC’s Arena Pro Series and more. Charlotte is popping this weekend.

Bank of America drops Lincoln Harris, doubles down on CBRE and JLL for real estate services.
CBJ reports that hundreds of Bank of America employees will transition over to these firms. Look out for increased networking coffees at the Caribou Coffee in Founders Hall.

Webb Simpson may be Charlotte’s favorite local PGA tour golfer, but eatings wings with Jason Kokrak sounds fun. Observer reports that Kokrak enjoys Midwood Smokehouse, wings at Moosehead and drives a 1969 Camaro SS. The fact that he’s had wings at Moosehead gives him some serious CLT street cred.

Coming Soon: Cinnaholic gourmet vegan cinnamon rolls. Date TBD. Rolls are $5-$6 each and you choose from 29 icing flavors. Agenda Briefing

Invitation: #mktCLT wants you to join the conversation about creating an authentic community. Tuesday the 19th at 5:30 pm at C3 Labs. Sign up ($25+).

Have a productive Thursday and don’t look at this Agenda Instagram of Summit Room cocktails until at least 4:30 pm.
