How Americans watch tv

Data: Pew Research Center, survey conducted August 15-21, 2017; Chart: Andrew Witherspoon / AxiosMore than a quarter of Americans use streaming as their primary way of watching TV, according to new data from Pew Research Center.

Last week, eMarketer reduced its annual estimate for TV ad spending in the United States by nearly $1 billion this year due to cord-cutting. The group predicts that by 2021, the ratio of pay TV viewers to non-pay TV viewers will drop from 4:1 to nearly 2:1.

A record number of original TV shows were created in 2019

A whopping 532 original scripted television series were created last year, according to the latest data from FX Networks Research, up 7% from the year before.

Why it matters: The new data suggests that "peak TV" hasn't happened yet.

Why U.S. homeowners consider going solar

Forty-six percent of U.S. homeowners say they have seriously considered installing solar panels at their homes, a new Pew Research Center poll shows.

Why it matters: It signals that the residential solar market has lots of room for growth. The survey notes that only 6% of homeowners polled have already installed systems — but the Solar Energy Industries Association's (SEIA) current estimate sits at 2.1%.
