Al Hoffman Jr., a top GOP donor, started an advocacy group pushing for Congress "to pass comprehensive gun control reform" on Saturday, per Time.

Why it matters: Hoffman is an outspoken critic of the GOP's decisions when it comes to firearms. The goals outlined by Hoffman's group include things President Trump previously expressed support for, including banning bump stocks, strengthening background checks, and raising the age limit to buy a firearm to 21.

  • The group's 21 supporters have donated at least $600,000 "to Republican candidates and committees in the 2017-2018 election cycle."
  • Worth noting: Americans for Gun Safety Now is classified as a 501c4 organization, per Time, which cold mean Republicans can donate without "[disclosing] that they have done so."
