Erdogan unofficially kicks off re-election campaign

Though Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hasn't officially declared that he's running for re-election, he "unofficially kicked off" his bid on Saturday with "what was effectively his first campaign rally," Reuters reports.

Why it matters: Erdogan is likely to win, and Reuters reports if he does he will have "new sweeping executive powers that were narrowly approved." Erdogan moved the elections up more than year from when they were originally scheduled. He said on Saturday: "I believe we will make political history on June 24 with record votes both on parliamentary and presidential elections," Reuters reports.
